Broadway Donna scores Big Finish in BC Elim

David Miller flew down the stretch aboard Broadway Donna to win the second $25,000 Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Filly Trot at The Meadowlands on Oct. 22.

Emoticon Hanover took the early lead with Windowshopper second and Flowers N Songs third at the :28 first quarter and the field stayed single file to the half in :57.4. EarnYour Wings was the first to pull heading for three-quarters, getting up to the leader in :127. As a brief duel ensued, the second tier formed with Flowers N Songs third over and full of trot, while favorite Broadway Donna went three wide to make a charge.

Broadway Donna soared down the outside lane about five wide and hit the wire first in 1:55 for trainer Jim Campbell and owners Fashion Farms LLC. Emotiicon Hanover held on for second, Flowers N Songs took third, while Earn Your Wings earned a berth in the final by finishing fourth, as did Celebrity Eventsy for finishing fifth.

Miller said after the race that Broadway Donna is “the best she has been all year . . . She kicked home real good [in this mile].”

Broadway Donna is last year’s Breeders Crown two-year-old trotting filly champ and this year she won the Filly Futurity at Lexington in two-straight heats.
